Want to look at archived club minutes? Click Here for Fall 2008 February 23, 2009 Club Meeting --Wed. IM basketball at 7:30, so get there around 7. Its a playoff game, so it should be a lot of fun! Hokie Passport, good clothes and shoes, and no jewelry, as always! Hope to see you there! --Also Wed. Baking night starts around 7:30-8 out at 11400 E/J. (If you are doing Bball, just come with everybody else) Probably, we will be downstairs, but just look for the people. --Thurs. is Bake Sale outside of Sharkeys. It will probably start at 10pm and go until we run out of food to sell. Profits go to Relay for Life, so come out! --Thursday, Nov. 6: Outside Lane Stadium before the football game, the Marching Virginians will be collecting canned goods through their "Hokies for the Hungry" program. The food will go to the Christiansburg Christmas Store to go to needy families in Montgomery County. Before you head out to your tailgate, grab a can and contribute! --Tuesday, March 3 at 3pm, Congressman Tom Tamcredo will be talking in Brush Mountain A about immigration. --If you want more information on the Florida State University College of Law's 2009 Summer for Undergraduates Program this summer, email me at aduncan9@vt.edu . Its an all expenses paid program, so if you have no summer plans, you could look into applying. --BIG EVENT! Email Trevon at ttalbot@vt.edu with your name to be put on the team. The Event is on April 18 at 8am, but it is usually done by noon, and we all go to El Rods after, so its a fun time. -- Join our RELAY FOR LIFE team online at www.vtrelay.org . Search for "PSC-IRO" or "Political Science Club". It costs $10, but it is for fighting cancer, and it is free food, a free t-shirt, and a really fun night! So sign up!!! BUT, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3rd at 3:30pm at the Smith Career Center Room B, you can learn how to prepare for a career fair including researching the companies in advance, having your resume ready, and tips on talking to employers. --Thurs. is Bake Sale outside of Sharkeys. If you played in one of the first Playoff games, be sure to sure up! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 23, 2009 Club Meeting --Phi Alpha Delta, the Pre-Law Society, is hosting the annual Law Panel at Virginia Tech. It will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009, from 7:30 to approximately 9:00 PM, in 3100 Torgersen Hall. If you are thinking about a career in law, or law school, it might be a good idea to go. --Next week, is Gay Awareness Week (March 30th - April 3rd). Email ttalbot@vt.edu to get involved with that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 30, 2009 Club Meeting --Bike to Uganda is going on all this week out in front of the Graduate Life Center (across from Squires). All you have to do is get on a stationary bike and go for as long as you want. The proceeds from sponsors will go to building a school in Uganda, and you get free exercise. The program is currently recruiting student volunteers and student hosts for this yearâÂÂs program. Gateway 2009 will be held Saturday, April 18 through Sunday, April 19. April 18th, but if you want to be involved CONTACT TREVON ASAP and he will put you on the list. ttalbot@vt.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 6, 2009 Club Meeting -- VT Undergraduate and Prospective Graduate Student Conference is tomorrow. Poster sessions are 9:30-11am, and oral presentations are from 9:30-12:10. Email me if you are interested in this and want a detailed schedule. --Want to hear two inspiring famous speakers? Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea, and Paul Farmer, from the biography Mountains Beyond Mountains, are coming to VT! He will be speaking on April 15, at 7pm. You need tickets to go to the event, but they are free, and he is a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, so you should go. IRO has done a lot to get this to work out, so you should go out and show your support. Tickets are through www.tickets.vt.edu -- Congressman Tom Tamcredo will be talking in Brush Mountain B on 4/27 at 7pm. After him, there will be a video, and you will need tickets for this too. He is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and he is speaking here at Virginia Tech. He will Be in Burruss at 7pm. The event is free, but you have to get tickets through the box office in Squires. --The 3rd VT Eisenhower Series College Program panel is going to be here again. It will be Tuesday, April 14 at 7 pm at Pamplin 30. Those who went last year said that it was really good, so try and make it out. The topic this year will be US national Security in the changing domestic and international environments. --Big Event is this Saturday April 18. We are meeting in on the Drill field at 9:30 AM!! Be sure to wear clothes that you will not be upset about ruining, since we do not know exactly what we will be doing. --Relay for Life is the Saturday after that, April 24-25. Now is the time to do any last minute fundraising. If you are not signed up, still show up to the event, which will be on the Drillfield , since you can sign up there. It is a great time, and I would invite everybody who can to come out!! -- Former Congressman Tom Tancredo will be coming to speak at Virginia Tech on April 27, 2009 in Brush Mountain B in Squires. He will be speaking on illegal immigration and Patriotic Assimilation. --T-Shirts have been ordered, and are on their way. More on that soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 20, 2009 Club Meeting -Paul Farmer, author of Mountains Beyond Mountains, who is coming to Burruss Hall next Monday at 7pm. Paul Farmer comes to Virginia Tech to speak about 'A Call to Global Citizenship and Service: Partnerships that make a Difference', which is inspired by his lifeâs work and those with whom he serves at Partnership in Health. Farmer is a noted anthropologist and physician, and cofounder of the International Health and Social Justice Association. You will need a ticket, but they are being handed out at the VT Box office in Squires -Frm. Congressman Tom Tancredo will be speaking in Brush Mountain B at 7pm. Tancredo will be speaking on the issue of illegal immigration and patriotic assimilation in the United States. There will be a question and answer session toward the end, so come prepared with questions! -The week after that, May 4, will be the last meeting of the year, and it will be celebrated at the Cellar, but there will be more information about that next week. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
