November 3, 2008 Club Meeting --Tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 4: ELECTION DAY! GET OUT AND VOTE! Rock the Vote and SGA need volunteers to help at the polling stations; e-mail amanda@rockthevote.com for more info. The BT will be shuttling to the polls; see the e-mail Nick sent out for details. --Also tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 4: Election watch social at 11400 E or J at 7:00 pm --Wednesday, Nov. 5: Pass the Peace Pipe! Open mic fundraiser for Invisible Children, held at She-sha on Draper Road, from 8:00 pm--12:00 am. Here's the link to the event on FB: http://www.facebook.com/home.php/event.php?eid=44143136004 --Thursday, Nov. 6: Outside Lane Stadium before the football game, the Marching Virginians will be collecting canned goods through their "Hokies for the Hungry" program. The food will go to the Christiansburg Christmas Store to go to needy families in Montgomery County. Before you head out to your tailgate, grab a can and contribute! --Friday, Nov. 7: Alyssa needs volunteers to help with decorating the Political Science bulletin board in Squires!! She will be sending out an e-mail before then. --Tuesday, Nov. 11: Thomas Laird, who has spent 3 years interviewing the Dalai Lama, will be giving a free presentation from 7:00 pm--9:00 pm in Torgersen 3100. Contact Jane Vance at jlvance@vt.edu with any questions. --Invisible Children will be conducting a book drive until December 4. Their goal is to get 10,000 books...bring a few to the next meeting or keep your eyes open for drop sites around campus! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 13, 2008 Club Meeting --Tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 14: PSC Volleyball game at 8:30 pm in War Memorial! Be there or be square. Srsly.(Katie Steele wrote this, by the way) --Also Wednesday, Oct. 1: "Politics on Campus Vote" panel presentation followed by discussion and Q&A, featuring Political Science Professor Craig Brians, Voter Registrar Randy Wertz, and Representatives from both the McCain and Obama campaigns. It will be in Squires Brush Mountain A from 12:15-1:15 pm. --Also Tuesday, Oct. 14: For freshmen and sophomores pursuing liberal arts majors: VT Pathways Planner Workshop in Litton Reeves room 1870 from 4:00-6:00 pm. --Also (again) Tuesday, Oct. 14: PSC and the Libertarians at Virginia Tech are sponsoring Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr to speak in Squires Colonial at 7:00 pm. PSC will have a table outside the event. --Wednesday, Oct. 15: (Final) Presidential Debate Social at 9:00 pm at 11400 J Foxridge --Also Wednesday, Oct. 15: Mountain Justice is sponsoring a Direct Action Training regarding the coal power plant to be built in Wise County, at the Christiansburg Rec Center from 7:00--8:30 pm. Alyssa will be sending out more details. --Monday, Oct. 20: PSC Yearbook photo towards the end of the meeting, at 7:50 pm in Squires Old Dominion Ballroom. If you have a PSC shirt, wear it... if you don't, wear something blue! --Tuesday, Oct. 28: GREAT DEBATE at 7:00 pm in Squires Colonial!!!! --Mock the Vote has been extended, so get everyone you know (yes, everyone) to fill out the survey! --Thank you to all the moderator candidates for their speeches tonight, and congratulations to John Gray for winning the honor of (once again) being the moderator of the Great Debate! --Top three Great debate topics chosen: Energy sources, Healthcare, and Social Security. Keep those in mind for the final vote! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- September 29, 2008 Club Meeting Wednesday, Oct. 1: The Ambassor of Denmark, Friis Arne Petersen, will be giving an open lecture on "European Union as a Rising Superpower" at 4:00 pm in McBryde 100. --Also Wednesday, Oct. 1: "Politics on Campus Vote" panel presentation followed by discussion and Q&A, featuring Political Science Professor Craig Brians, Voter Registrar Randy Wertz, and Representatives from both the McCain and Obama campaigns. It will be in Squires Brush Mountain A from 12:15-1:15 pm. --Thursday, Oct. 2: VP Debate at 9:00 pm! Possible Debate social at Ickes's, details coming from the social chairs! --Wednesday, Oct. 1--Wednesday, Oct. 8: Mock the Vote survey will be open! Spread the word to whomever/ whatever listservs you can so we can reach our goal of 1500 participants! --Monday, Oct. 6: Mock the Vote! in Booth A on the first floor of Squires from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. --Wednesday, Oct. 8: Mock the Vote! in Booth B on the first floor Squires from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm. (An e-mail reminder will be going out before those days!) --Friday, Oct. 10--Sunday Oct. 12: Virginia Powershift! Featuring speakers (James Hanson!), workshops, and live music! Bring Supplies and any PSC photos you have, Alyssa will have the tri-fold poster. Her address is 421 East Roanoke Street, Apt F (in the Chase). --Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6: Gobblerfest, 11:00-5:00. PSC will have a table at the Student Organization Fair from 2:00-5:00, come out and bring your friends! --Saturday, Sept. 6: PSC Tailgate in the commuter lot, starting early, around 8:00! Bring fun and friends and hang with the noble PSC! --Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17-18: Bake night on Wednesday, Bake Sale at Sharkey's on Thursday!
